Tranquilidad BOLIVIA 73% Dark Chocolate

Deep in the Bolivian Amazon, Hacienda Tranquilidad occupies 1,500 acres of land that includes 850 acres of intact natural forest where wild Beniano cacao trees grow undisturbed until harvest. Volker Lehmann, the estate's owner, was the first person in the modern era to bring this endemic Amazonian variety to the fine chocolate market — a variety now certified Heirloom by the Heirloom Cacao Preservation Initiative for its genetic significance and exceptional flavor potential. These are tiny beans from massive wild trees, and the chocolate they produce is unlike anything grown in cultivation.

Craft Notes
Beniano cacao is endemic to the Bolivian Amazon Basin, found nowhere else on earth and harvested here much as it has always been — from wild trees in a standing forest, with minimal intervention between the tree and the drying table. Lehmann's work at Tranquilidad has been instrumental in demonstrating that Bolivia belongs in the conversation about the world's finest cacao origins. At 73%, this bar is dark and composed, with notes of honey, prune, and espresso that deepen as it melts.
