Semuliki Forest UGANDA 74% Dark Chocolate
Couldn't load pickup availability
Latitude Trade Company operates out of the Bundibugyo district in western Uganda, on the edge of the Semuliki Forest at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains — one of the most biodiverse landscapes on the continent and an origin that produces cacao with a profile unlike anything else we work with. LTC purchases wet cacao from over 1,000 smallholder farmers in the region, more than half of them women, and manages centralized fermentation and drying at their facility in the village of Bumate. The result is a 74% dark chocolate that is dense and complex, with a savory depth that surprises.

Craft Notes
Latitude Trade Company is a Ugandan-registered social enterprise owned and managed by Jeff Steinberg, whose model prioritizes direct relationships with smallholder farmers and rigorous post-harvest processing. The Bundibugyo region has historically been overlooked in fine flavor cacao conversations — LTC has spent years demonstrating otherwise. This bar reads more savory than sweet, with notes of fudge, rye bread, and dried fig that reward slow eating.

Traceable and responsible ingredients
We believe that establishing a sustainable and traceable supply chain should be a baseline standard for any business, but especially when working in an industry that is still wrought with human rights abuses and corruption. We are dedicated to driving positive change through responsible purchasing, and through establishing long term relationships with our producer-partners.
